Founder
Colonel John Blashford-Snell CBE, DSc (Hon), D Eng (hc), FRSGS
John (JBS) is a former Royal Engineer and one of the world's most renowned and highly respected explorers.
He founded SES in 1969 and Operation Drake/Raleigh in 1978. He has mounted hundreds of expeditions concentrating on scientific research and community aid. He works with many charities supporting underrepresented youth in the UK, and countless community aid projects in remote parts of the world.

Chair
Peter Felix CBE
Peter is an international management consultant. He is former Chair of the British-American Chamber of Commerce in New York, and the global Association of Executive Search Consultants.
Peter is now an executive mentor, career counsellor, and SES trustee and member of the Society's Advisory Board. He went on John Blashford-Snell's Mongolian Expedition in 2016.
Peter and his wife June Felix are proud sponsors of the SES Young Scientific Explorer honorary award.

Treasurer
David Zeitlin
David qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in the 1980s, was a finance director in the Storehouse Group in the 1990s, and was then involved in the launch and explosive growth of Orange.
David worked with John Blashford-Snell as trustee and treasurer of Operation New World from 2008 to 2019, and has been a trustee and treasurer of SES since 2019 and treasurer of the Mathieson Music Trust since 2008.
